One sheet in — and every page it touches is updated by breakfast.
Why this exists
Water polo is one of the most demanding sports there is — an hour of sprinting, wrestling and treading water, played at a level most people never get to see. And it lives in the margins: no prime-time slot, no national box-score feed, its numbers treated as an afterthought the moment the final horn sounds.
The numbers that do exist are a mess. Box scores that never get posted, stat lines that don’t add up, a player’s name spelled three different ways, a whole season that quietly disappears every June. Every other college sport has a home for its record; water polo’s is scattered — a final score here, a box score there. If you wanted to know who led the country in saves, the honest answer was: nobody knows.
I’ve felt that as a player and as a fan — the frustration of caring about a game whose history nobody bothered to keep. PoloMetrics is my attempt to fix it: to put the whole sport on one page. Every D1 men’s game, every stat line, every season — collected nightly, added up, and kept. So an assist in an 11 PM game in DC is on a leaderboard by breakfast.
And maybe, by making the record complete and out in the open, it nudges the sport toward better numbers — schools posting every box score, fixing the ones that are wrong, treating their data like it matters. The sport deserves that. This is a start.
One night of data
The night’s last box scores are posted by the schools.
We gather every program’s results and box scores.
Each box score becomes stat lines — goals, saves, steals, exclusions, per player.
New numbers are checked against the record; only real changes go in.
Standings, leaderboards and every player page reflect last night.
The fine print
Accuracy & corrections
The numbers are collected automatically, and automation is best-effort: sources change, box scores get amended, and mistakes slip through. The official record always lives with the schools and the NCAA. Spotted something off? The feedback button on any page goes straight to us — fixes usually land within a day.
Independence
PoloMetrics is an independent project — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NCAA, any conference, or any school. Team names and marks identify the programs, nothing more.
